A motorcyclist was killed in a fiery crash that sent him off his bike, into a light pole and over an Interstate 95 overpass, according to authorities. The wreck happened around 11 Tuesday night in the northbound lanes of I-95 just south of I-395 in Miami. “The morotcyclist ... somehow lost control,” Miami Fire Capt. Ignatius Carroll told reporters. “The impact was so severe that the motorcycle actually caught fire and there was debris that was scattered not only on the highway but down onto Northwest Third Avenue.” Authorities shut down northbound I-95 near I-395 and Northwest Third, causing extensive traffic delays. The highway was opened in time for Wednesday morning commuters. The man, who was 25 or 26, traveled at “a high level of speed” and was driving in a “reckless manner,” said Florida Highway Patrol spokesman Joe Sanchez. Movistar Yamaha MotoGP’s Lorenzo is the form rider in the premier class at present and he ended the day on top by 0.147s from his compatriot Espargaro despite a crash after losing the front end late in FP2. The morning’s fastest Espargaro (NGM Forward Racing) ended the day second overall courtesy of his FP1 best. The pressure is off Marquez this weekend after he secured the 2014 title on Sunday at Motegi but the Repsol Honda star was the rider to get closest to Lorenzo in FP2, though he was behind Espargaro on combined times in third overall. Iannone (Pramac Racing) was 0.2s down on Lorenzo in fourth, but he too suffered a late crash in the afternoon. Andrea Dovizioso (Ducati Team) and Valentino Rossi (Movistar Yamaha MotoGP) both finished the day inside the top six.
